The new photo book, Avondale: A Model for Success, tracks the story of an American shipyard from its humble beginnings in 1938, through years of growth achievement, up to its eventual acquisition in 1999.

Assembled by Rene Pierre Meric, Jr. and Philip J. Meric, the book is a pictorial account of Avondale Shipyard, taking readers on a journey that follows the shipyard’s storied history, from its foundation as Avondale Marine Ways through decades of production and expansion as Avondale Shipyard and Avondale Industries, with special mention to the shipyard's founders: James Viavant, Harry Koch and Perry Ellis.

"Avondale built a diverse range of vessels and structures through the years, but its most important asset was its people, uniting with the utilization of technology, excellent work force, diversity of construction and great resource of the Mississippi River to create a unique American success story."

This book is available for $30 plus shipping. For more information or to purchase, contact James Baldwin, (504) 588-2981, [email protected], or Brigitte Keiser, (504) 588-2982, [email protected].
