The ASTM International seminar, Fire Testing for SOLAS and Navy Vessels: New Test Procedures and Material Approval Process, will be held Dec. 7 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside in Tampa. Sponsored by ASTM Committee F25 on Ships and Marine Technology, the seminar will be held in conjunction with the committee’s December standards development meetings.
Major revisions to the International Code for the Application of Fire Test Procedures (FTP Code) were approved by the International Maritime Organization in December 2010. The revisions become effective on July 1, 2012, and all approval tests after June 30, 2013, must be to the revised procedures. The FTP Code augments the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) for fire safety on ships engaged in international trade, and details the tests necessary to demonstrate compliance with the safety performance expectations for shipboard materials, furnishings and fire divisions.
This seminar provides detailed information on the major revisions to the FTP Code and includes presentations on test procedures, the approval process, Mutual Recognition Agreements and FTP Code interpretations and optional tests. In addition, the latest Navy fire test requirements for N-Class structural divisions for Navy vessels will be presented. The seminar is geared toward industry individuals with specific interest in fire testing and approval of materials for use in the construction of ships. Designers, manufacturers, suppliers, shipyards and test laboratories will all benefit from attending the seminar.
