Konstantin Palnikov, Director General of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, met Robert Ashdown, Secretary General of International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), Tuesday in St. Petersburg.

The visit was organized within the framework of Secretary General introduction to the leaders of Classification Societies – IACS members (Ashdown was appointed to the post in July 2015).

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has been an IACS member since November 1969 and it is an active participant to the work of the Association, its governing and working bodies. Currently, two expert groups – on legal matters and data communication – are chaired by the RS specialists.

In the course of the conversation of IACS Secretary General with the RS Director General, the Register expectations from the Association work were discussed, as well as its focus areas, including the necessity to develop the IACS requirements for the integrated automation of ship systems and measures to ensure cybersecurity on board.
