Clay Maitland, Chairman of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association, announced that Morten Arntzen will moderate the Risk Management panel at this year’s North American World Maritime Day Observance being held on October 30th aboard the Hornblower Infinity in New York. This annual event explores this year’s World Maritime Day theme of Sustainability and will include a risk management roundtable featuring industry leaders such as Peter Evensen of Teekay, Phillip Shapiro of Liberty Maritime, IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu, ITOPF’s Karen Purnell, BiMCO’s Torben Skaanild, INTERTANKO’S Nicky Pappadakis and Donald Roussel of Transport Canada.

Morten Arntzen has been involved in the global shipping industry continuously since 1979 in a variety of capacities: credit analyst, banker, underwriter, advisor, arranger investor, board member, CEO and speaker. He has worked with companies all over the globe, through several industry cycles in all the major segments: tanker, bulk, container, gas, cruise and chemicals.

The 2013 North American World Maritime Day Observance will include opening remarks by RADM Joseph Servidio of the United States Coast Guard, followed by The Honorable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport for Canada. Jeff Lantz of the USCG will moderate the safety and stewardship panel, Paul Topping of Transport Canada the technology panel, and Smit’s Doug Martin the education panel.

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Koji Sekimizu, will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon sponsored by Teekay Corporation. His remarks will center on the Sustainable Development report issued by the IMO last week and the strategies that industry, governments and NGOs could deploy to achieve change.

The day will be capped by the 2013 NAMEPA Marine Environment Protection Awards Dinner recognizing Teekay Corporation, ITOPF, BIMCO’s Torben Skaanild, National Geographic Society and Transport Canada.

Registration is limited. For information on attending, contact [email protected].
