NYK Aims at Developing New Shipping and Logistics Solution

March 15, 2016

Tokyo-based shipping line NYK Group (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) has decided to establish a new company, Symphony Creative Solutions (SCS) in Singapore, to develop and market new solutions in the shipping and logistics fields.

NYK, along with its subsidiaries, the Monohakobi Technology Institute and NYK Business Systems, has teamed up with Weathernews and Kozo Keikaku Engineering for the new venture to further the development of the Symphony Project.

"Symphony Project" will aim to create new value in the auto logistics supply chain and offer next-generation solutions for its customers under the slogan "Bringing value to customers by providing value-added services and solutions that feature unique logistics technologies."

This joint development project was selected by NYK’s Creative Solutions Development Fund during the fund’s first call for applications. The NYK Group continually promotes creative solutions, as upheld in its medium-term management plan “More Than Shipping 2018,” and aims to create new value in the supply chain by providing innovative next-generation services that support customers’ needs in logistics.

In this project, the NYK Group’s knowledge, on-site capabilities and the global network that the group has cultivated in the auto logistics business will be fused with Weathernews’ innovative infrastructure network and weather forecast technology, along with Kozo Keikaku Engineering’s cutting-edge simulations that make use of advanced operations research techniques and data analysis technology.

The Symphony Project will focus on developing new services for each ASEAN country whose auto logistics demand is remarkably expanding, and we will begin by offering our new "Garuda" value-added services suitable to the local logistics situation in Indonesia, which is rapidly becoming the largest car market among the ASEAN countries, says a statement from the company.
