Wilhelmsen Ships Service Acquires CMU

May 24, 2010

Wilhelmsen Ships Service has acquired Compañia Maritima Unitor (CMU) in Chile. The new company, operating as Wilhelmsen Ships Service (Chile) SA, continues to offer the full range of Unitor products that were previously supplied through CMU. The company’s capabilities include warehousing in Valparaíso and it is able to deliver a wide range of safety products, marine chemicals, welding equipment and other associated marine products to all of Chile’s main ports.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service in Chile is headed by General Manager, Alejandro Gajardo, who has been in charge of CMU for the past 10 years. Wilhelmsen Ships Service is also retaining all personnel that were formerly part of CMU, building on the strong reputation that the company has built up over the years.

The new company also has an infrastructure for providing safety and liferaft services, which will soon be available once the personnel have been through Wilhelmsen Ships Service’s own certification and approval process.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service will remain at the existing premises in Valparaíso and customers will not experience any disruption to the trade relationships that are in place. The new company will be bringing the full range of Wilhelmsen Ships Services products and service offers to the maritime market in Chile.

In addition to Chile, Wilhelmsen Ships Service already has a presence throughout South America’s west coast in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, complementing its presence on the east coast in Brazil and Argentina, plus Venezuela in the north.
