Webb Institute Names Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship Recipients

Webb Institute, a four-year college specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, announced the selection of Don Rickerson ’13 and Justin van Emmerik ’13 as the 2012 – 2013 Thomas B. Crowley Memorial Scholarship recipients. Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship Program is awarded annually to one or two students, who, in the eyes of the Scholarship Selection Committee at Webb Institute, have demonstrated leadership qualities, school and community involvement, interest in and dedication to the maritime industry, and academic promise.  “We are deeply grateful for the continued support that Crowley Maritime Corporation as shown Webb Institute.” stated the President of Webb Institute, RADM Robert C. Olsen, Jr., USCG (Ret.) “Through this scholarship, students that may not have been able to afford a higher education, are given the opportunity to fulfill their potential.”
The Thomas B. Crowley Scholarship Program was established at Webb Institute in 2007 and includes a subscription to Connections, the Crowley Maritime Corporation magazine. The Crowley Scholarship was established at Webb Institute in conjunction with The Marty Johnson ’88 Leadership Fund. Marty was a longtime employee of Crowley Maritime and the company wanted to establish an appropriate fund in his memory.
