UTEC has announced the appointment of Simon Hird as general manager of its Australian entity UTEC Survey Australia Pty Ltd.

Simon will oversee the projected growth to support key customers in the Australian market.

The announcement complements the aggressive global growth strategy of UTEC including the recent appointments in significant management roles at its UK and Italian offices.

Simon Hird brings more than 30 years of industry experience gained primarily in the North Sea, including three years with a major oil and gas operator.  Since 2008 he has been based in Australia and has held senior management positions with a number of the foremost engineering and subsea construction companies.

Since opening its office in Perth in 2008, UTEC has established itself as a leading survey services provider capable of meeting the demands of its Australian client base, working in challenging subsea environments.

Commenting on his new role at UTEC, Simon says: "I am delighted to be joining UTEC at such an exciting time in the company's development. UTEC is well established in Australia and has developed a great team in the Perth office. As the local market continues to grow I am grateful for the chance to lead the team ‘down under’ as we strive to become recognised as the ‘leading edge’ survey and positioning company in Australia."

Sean Fowler, Managing Director APAC region, comments: “Simon is an outstanding addition to our senior management team. Without question his experience and leadership will be invaluable to our customers as we continue to mature our business in Australia.”

CEO of the UTEC Group, Martin O’Carroll observes: “Yet again we demonstrate UTEC’s ability to attract and leverage the talent of exceptional people.  I look forward Simon’s contribution as we expand the scale of the company’s operations in Australia.”

UTEC is one of the world’s largest independent offshore survey companies providing a wide range of survey services including offshore positioning, construction support, geophysical (conventional towed and AUV) surveys, dimensional control (including laser scanning and modelling) as well as geotechnical (consultancy & sampling) services.  UTEC has offices located around the world including: Aberdeen, Houston, Singapore, Naples, Perth, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro and Calgary.
