1950- The Coast Guard announced that former enlisted women of the Coast Guard Reserve could apply for enlistment in the Women’s Volunteer Reserve (SPARS). Enlistments were to be for a three-year period with written agreement to serve on active duty in time of war or national emergency.
The commander of all Soviet fishing vessels in the Far East, Evgeniy Gromov, invited representatives from the Coast Guard and the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries to meet aboard the Soviet vessel Olivtorka. The purpose of the meeting was to improve understanding in the implementation of the recent U.S.-Soviet fisheries agreement.
