Dr. Steven Cargill Receives MTS Award

GL Noble Denton expert receives distinguished achievement award for contribution to the DP Industry.

In Houston, TexasThe Marine Technology Society (MTS) Dynamic Positioning Committee honors Dr Steven Cargill with its 2012 Distinguished Achievement Award.

The prize recognises Steven’s contribution to the field of dynamic positioning (DP) throughout his 28-year career within the oil and gas industry. It pays tribute to his success in developing important technical standards on failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) for DP systems, and his input to a range of international guideline documents published by the Marine Technology Society.

Described to have a talent for translating his profound knowledge into understandable terms for non-specialists, Steven is one of 12 DP professionals to have been honoured with a Distinguished Achievement Award since 2001. During a special ceremony to mark the occasion in Houston, DP founder Howard Shatto characterised Steven as an active coach and mentor to industry professionals. He also praised Steven for his ability to empathise with contrasting industry opinions, and turn differing views into pragmatic technical solutions that benefit the sector.

Commenting on his receipt of the Award, Steven said: “It is a great honour to have been recognised for my work in dynamic positioning. As the oil and gas industry increases its activity in deepwater environments, it is crucial that operators are able to rely on safe and reliable DP systems."
