Start of Spartakiada Games of Gazprom in Krasnodar

The 11th Summer Spartakiada Games of Gazprom were opened today in the Tuapse District of the Krasnodar Territory. The opening ceremony took place at the Orlenok All-Russian Children’s Center. Taking part in the event were Elena Kasyan, Head of Gazprom’s Department and Alexander Koryakin, Director General of Gazprom Dobycha Krasnodar.

2,700 adults and children from 27 subsidiaries of Gazprom in Russia and Belarus came to Kuban to fight for the top tiers of the victory stand.

The six-day Spartakiada Games will last till September 12. Adults will compete in six sports: volleyball, kettlebell lifting, track & field athletics, swimming, basketball and football; children will compete in track & field quadrathlon, table tennis, swimming and football. A total of 39 medal sets will be at stake.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee sent a greeting message to the participants and guests of the Spartakiada Games, which runs as follows: “The best of the best – winners of regional competitions – will fight for medal places. They well deserve their position among the strongest due to hard training, high perseverance and an enormous will to win. Now they have hit the final straight. They will need total concentration and utmost commitment in order to win here. I wish sports luck and well-earned victories to all the participants of the Spartakiada Games, and spectacular matches and vivid emotions – to guests and rooters!”

Apart from the competitions, the participants and guests of the Spartakiada Games will have a chance to get acquainted with the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory as well as meet with the Olympic champions.

Gazprom Dobycha Krasnodar hosts the Spartakiada Games for the first time.
