CMA CGM Shipped 17,000 Tons of Goods for the Rio Olympics

Before the Olympic flame was lit in the Maracanã stadium on Saturday, August 6, worldwide shipping group CMA CGM had transported thousands of containers of goods and equipment to Rio, having begun its shipments for the 2016 Olympic Games in December 2015.

 

From perishable goods in refrigerated containers, to vegetables, luxury yachts, pharmaceutical products, industrial equipment and even safety barriers for the track cycling event, the shipper said it contributed to this historic event by transporting equipment and installations to Rio, a reflection of the wide reaching economic influence of the Olympics.

 

CMA CGM loaded its first Olympics-bound containers in December 2015 from Asia and Europe, and the final containers reached Rio in June 2016.

 

In all, CMA CGM said it carried more than 1,400 containers loaded with 17,000 tons of goods for the Olympic Village. Among them, more than 200 containers were loaded from the French ports of Fos sur Mer and le Havre, while most of the containers from China were loaded in Shanghai, Nansha and Yantan.
