Shea Concrete Products delivers 40 precast floating docks to Lynn’s Seaport Landing Marina in Lynn, MA.

Altogether, Shea Concrete Products manufactured 14 main docks and 28 dock fingers, with the largest main dock at 9ft wide by 50ft long, and weighing over 50,000lbs.

Upgrades to the Seaport Landing Marina began last November, as an attempt to spur redevelopment in the area. Located just 10 miles North of Boston, the marina is capable of accommodating 65 vessels, with boats up to 65ft in length. The Seaport Landing Marina has been operated by the city of Lynn for 25 years.

Improvements to the marina included replacing the old, withered docks with new, precast concrete floating docks and dock fingers. Shea Concrete Products manufactured the docks for Marinetek, one of the world's leading manufacturers of marinas and floating solutions.

“Marinetek provided all the forms and engineering on the project and then looked to us, the precasters, to make the product,” Greg Stratis, manager of Shea Concrete Products, said. “We were particularly happy about working with Marinetek on this product because it’s a unique project for us. It’s a great use of precast.”

Precast products are becoming a popular choice for boating docks because they are able to counteract the buoyant forces of the water significantly better than most materials. Shea Concrete Products’ docks and dock fingers are filled with styrofoam, enabling them to float, and are coated with thin layers of precast concrete.
