Samudera in $70mln LNG Deal

October 14, 2015

Samudera Indonesia has won a $70 million contract for supplying liquefied-natural gas to a power plant operated by state gold miner Aneka Tambang in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi.

The company will assign one of its 50 ships to serve the plant, managing director Bani Mulia said. "Our target is to start supplying [the LNG] next year," he said.

The company will  initially deploy 1-2 vessels and will gradually increase to six vessels to serve the contract. The length of the contract was not disclosed.

The Indonesian company has set aside $120m with which to buy up to six ships this year, including oil tankers, LNG carriers and container vessels.

Samudera Indonesia is also taking part in a tender to procure an FSRU (floating storage and regasification unit) for state energy company PT Pertamina. The FSRU would be leased for 20 years. Bani noted the tender process is still in early stages.

The project is expected to generate revenue of around USD200 million per unit over the next 20 years.

Samudera Indonesia was established in 1964 as a shipping agency and its operations now include logistics, shipping, terminal and agency businesses.
