Fairfax, Virginia--The International Propeller Club of the Unites States has announced that R. Andrew Riester has been named Executive Vice President. After a period of transition alongside interim Executive Vice President John W. Angus, III, he will provide full-time staff leadership in the organization’s headquarters office in Fairfax, Virginia.
“The executive committee of the International Propeller Club is very happy to welcome Andrew Riester aboard. His experience in the maritime industry and his association management background will be an asset to the important work of the Club,” said Wade Wetherington, International President of the Propeller Club. “We are grateful to John Angus for his many years of service to the Club, most recently two-plus years as our interim Executive Vice President.”
“It is an honor to be selected for this position with the Propeller Club, which has been working to support a strong American merchant marine and promote the nation’s maritime economy for more than 80 years. I look forward to working with the club’s nearly 70 port chapters across the U.S. and around the world to continue this proud tradition of service,” Mr. Riester said.
Mr. Riester most recently served as Vice President of Waterways Council, Inc., an organization focused on the infrastructure needs of the nation’s shallow-draft waterways, from 2004-2010. In that role, he worked on a variety of initiatives, including the launch of the popular Waterways Symposium and Waterways Seminar events. He also contributed to the creation and growth of Capitol Currents, WCI’s well-regarded electronic newsletter. Previously he served the National Waterways Conference, Inc., from 2000-2003, first as communications manager and later as executive vice president.
Earlier in his career, he fulfilled communications positions for the American Public Power Association, the organization representing the nation’s more than 2000 municipally owned electric utilities. He earned a Master’s degree in transportation policy, operations and logistics from George Mason University, and received his Bachelor’s degree from American University.
