Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) informs it has achieved its first safety milestone on its liftboat new building project, with the successful completion of one million safe man-hours without any lost-time-incidents (LTIs). The self-propelled and elevating lift boat is being constructed for N-KOM’s long-time client Gulf Drilling International (GDI), under a contract awarded to the shipyard last year.

Commenting on the occasion was Nakilat’s managing director Abdullah Al Sulaiti, who said, “Safety is an important cornerstone of our operations and we pride ourselves on maintaining very high standards. I would like to commend both the N-KOM and GDI project teams for their commitment and support in making this achievement possible today, which is especially significant since this is the first built-in-Qatar lift boat and N-KOM’s first new building project. We will continue this excellent safety track record and deliver to the satisfaction of our client GDI in a safe, timely and quality manner.”

The LB310-design lift boat can support a wide range of services such as well servicing, commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning of offshore platforms. The customized lift boat is equipped with two deck cranes, a large open deck space of around 800 sqm, a helideck, and accommodation capacity for 130 persons. It also allows for a specially designed gangway bridge to link platforms for emergency escape and other safety purposes. The lift boat is currently on track for delivery at the end of this year to GDI.

Supporting his view, GDI’s chief executive officer Mubarak Awaida Al Hajri said, “GDI is pleased with this significant safety accomplishment, which is a testament to Nakilat’s commitment to safety and quality. N-KOM has been a reliable partner in maintaining our fleet of rigs over the past four years and we are confident that once this lift boat is delivered at the end of this year, it will enable us to better serve our customers.”
