Port of Rotterdam Appoints Matthijs as Logistics Manager

September 4, 2016

Matthijs van Doorn has been appointed as the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s Logistics Manager as of 1 September 2016. Van Doorn joined the Port Authority team over a year ago as Business Manager Forwarding.

His ambitions are in line with the Port Authority’s plan to develop the port of Rotterdam into Europe’s foremost logistics hub. Van Doorn, who fulfilled a number of positions at TNT (Express) before joining the Port Authority, will be succeeding Wouter van Dijk, who has accepted a position at ProRail.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority’s Logistics department focuses on the continuous improvement of Rotterdam’s connections with the hinterland. Both in terms of the quality of logistics processes in the port area, and of its connections and transport frequencies.

In this process, the Port Authority puts a special focus on the ‘growth chains’ containers and ro/ro. The Logistics department remains in close consultation with the private sector regarding developments in the inland shipping, rail, road transport, freight forwarding and shipping sectors.

It works closely together with these private parties to increase the port of Rotterdam’s appeal as a hub for handling and shipping cargo. As such, the Logistics department makes a significant contribution to the port’s commercial ambitions in the dry bulk, liquid bulk, containers and breakbulk logistics chains.
