C-MAR and the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) has officially launched the Dynamic Positioning training facility (DPC-SMU) at a special ceremony in Shanghai.
In the first joint venture of its kind, C-MAR will provide dynamic positioning (DP) training to Chinese nationals and vessel operators in the offshore oil and gas sector.
With 50% of the world’s crude oil passing through the South China Sea and an increase in oil and gas exploration and production activity, the need has never been greater for more domestic operators able to work in deep waters and challenging environments. C-MAR has trained 45% of the world’s dynamic positioning operators, and was chosen by the SMU after careful consideration.
SMU Vice President Yang Wanfeng, C-MAR Group Chairman Chris Hawdon and President Ron Murray were joined at the opening ceremony on the university campus on Saturday 25th April by distinguished industry, academic and business figures including Chang Fuzhi, deputy director-general of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, the Deputy Director General of the Shanghai Salvage Bureau, Jin Yongxing, General Secretary of the SMU Party Committee, the British Consul General in Shanghai, and the Executive Director of China-Britain Business Council.
C-MAR Chairman Chris Hawdon commented, “The launch of DPC-SMU is a considerable achievement for C-MAR and will see the expansion of our world-class engineering and marine services to the Chinese market. Guests and current and prospective clients were later given a tour of the training center to inspect the world-class facilities on offer to students. The DP Centre of the Shanghai Maritime University boasts new equipment manufactured by Dutch company Praxis Automation Technology. It uses first of its kind 3D graphics from the V-STEP DP Class B simulator, recently accredited by the Nautical Institute in Shanghai and praised for its immaculate quality, realism and high training value enjoyed by users.
Opening C-MAR Marine Technical Services (Shanghai) Co. Ltd in conjunction with the Shanghai Maritime University underpins China’s expansion from the production of vessels to the service and operating of side of the business and signals its progression towards becoming a world leader in Exploration and Production of offshore hydrocarbons.
