The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) Executive Control Board (ECB) recently selected 19 new R&D projects to be executed, totalling approximately $2.5-million, as part of their core project mission to reduce the costs associated with Navy shipbuilding and repair.

NSRP is a collaboration of U.S. shipyards working together to reduce the cost of building, operating and repairing Navy ships by improving productivity and quality through advanced technology and processes. NSRP leverages public/private cooperation to manage cost-shared R&D based on a consensus Strategic Investment Plan. The R&D projects are as follows:

  1. Low Voltage Quick Connector Evaluation
  2. Flexible Interface for Automated Circuit Tester for Level 1 Testing
  3. Control Technology Comparison for Heavy Metals Removal from Shipyard Storm Water Run-off
  4. Development of a Data Management Application (Emissions Tracker) to Reduce Labor and Increase Accuracy in the Regulatory Reporting of Environmental Emissions
  5. Requirements for a Shipbuilding Drawingless Environment
  6. Modular Scaffolding for Block Outfitting
  7. Validation of Analysis Methods for Padeye Attachment Under Dynamic Loading through Destructive Testing
  8. Metals in Paint Analysis Using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)
  9. Noise Control for Portable Ventilation Blowers
  10. Outfit Attachments on Thin Plate Vessels
  11. Reducing Inspection Costs Using the Latest Digital Inspection Tools
  12. Cost Savings Comparison in Application of Polysiloxane vs. Silicone Alkyd Topcoats
  13. Robust Functional Paperless Paint Phase II, Future State Implementation
  14. Standardized Foundations Database for Combat Systems
  15. Ship Warfare Systems Interface Descriptions
  16. Copper and Fiber Optic Test Equipment Integration into Shipyard Processes
  17. Development and Evaluation of ICE Welding Procedures for Thick Plate
  18. Survey of Small (< 3" NPS) Valve Welding Techniques to Protect Heat Damageable Material
  19. Autogenous Pipe Welding
