‘Military to Maritime’ Career Fair

August 19, 2014

Event for current and former military men and women will help veterans transition to maritime industry jobs

On Wednesday, September 3, 2014, the Port of Houston and industry partners will host a “Military to Maritime” career fair sponsored by the American Maritime Partnership, the voice of the domestic maritime industry. The event is designed to help current and former members of the military transition to a career in the domestic maritime industry.

While the unemployment rate among veterans has steadily declined in recent years, more than 720,000 servicemen and women are still out of work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The U.S. maritime industry’s goal is to provide those veterans with an opportunity to maximize their professional strengths and learn about exciting careers in a growing and dynamic industry.

“Military to Maritime” is a free, informative job fair for servicemen and women interested in transitioning from the military to a maritime-related field. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with recruiters and HR staff from large and small companies, as well as maritime unions and schools; attend seminars on marine licensing and transition; take vessel tours; and visit with crew members and industry personnel who are veterans and made the transition to the maritime industry. No prior maritime experience is necessary, and all services are welcome.

Interested veterans and current servicemen and women interested in attending must register at https://military2maritime.eventbrite.com
