Klein Named Carnival Maritime MD

Carnival Maritime GmbH has announced  that Dr Hermann J. Klein has been appointed as its new Managing Director, starting September 1st, 2018.

 

Klein is currently Managing Director and Group COO of CPO Holding (Offen Group) in Hamburg, Germany. He will be succeeding Lars Ljoen, who will join Carnival Cruise Lines in Miami, USA, as Head of Marine Operations. Carnival Maritime is the marine service unit for Costa Group with its brands AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, and Costa Asia.

 

“Hermann Klein is a long-standing, well recognized executive of the maritime industry and has the perfect background and profound marine experience to further drive innovation and operational excellence across our fleet,” said Michael Thamm, Group CEO, Costa Group and Carnival Asia. “He brings tremendous knowledge, energy, and strategic vision to Carnival Maritime, and we are thrilled to welcome him in this important role for Costa Group.”

 

As Managing Director of Carnival Maritime, Klein will be responsible for overseeing all marine operations of Costa Group, including nautical and technical operations, environmental compliance and safety, port operations and development and new builds.

 

Klein holds a Naval Architect and a Mechanical Engineer degree as well as a PhD in Engineering, and has a long track record in marine operations. Since April 2015, Hermann has been Managing Director and Group COO of CPO Holding, Offen Group, one of the world's leading managers of container shipping, bulk carriers and product tankers.

 

From 2012 to 2015, he was Managing Director and CEO of E.R. Schiffahrt/Blue Star Holding, a dedicated ship manager with about 80 vessels in service, and before served for seven years as Executive Board Member of Germanischer Lloyd in Hamburg.
