The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) has appointed Liz Hay as Executive Director of its ANZSPAC (Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific) Division.
She will combine the position with her dual role as Chief Executive Officer of both the Australian Shipbuilders Association and Australian Ship Repairers Group, which are currently in the process of merging. Based on Australia’s Gold Coast, Liz has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the Australian maritime sector. She has held numerous appointments to Australian Federal and State Government bodies, including with: the Australian & New Zealand Environment & Conservation Council; Maritime Platform Liaison Group, Dept of Defence; Marine Industry Working Group, Dept Innovation, Industry, Science & Research; Australian Maritime Defence Council; Maritime Industry Security Consultative Forum; Transport Security Council, Dept of Infrastructure Transport Regional Development & Local Government; Queensland Marine Board, Queensland Department of Transport; and the Gold Coast Marine Safety Authority.
Liz has assisted with preparation of Department of Defence White Papers and Strategic Sector Plans; establishment of the Gold Coast Marine Precinct and Riviera Marine Joint Training Scheme; monitoring and contribution to OECD and EU shipbuilding and other maritime issues; coordination and assistance with Australia’s input and representation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO); coordination and liaison of voyage repairs and refits carried out in Australian ports for the US Navy; and has an extensive background in Australian representation to international and domestic commercial and defence marine trade exhibitions and conferences, including coordination of trade missions.
