HMAA Introduces Fast Track Arbitration Rules

September 25, 2012

Houston Maritime Arbitrators Association has introduced additional rules providing for Fast Track Arbitration.

HMAA recognizes that the cost of arbitration can become prohibitive in smaller matters and the process time too lengthy. To remedy this, HMAA has enacted a set of Fast Track Arbitration Rules and a supplement to the normal HMAA arbitration clause to call them into play.

Matters involving less than $ 100,000 can be heard under the Fast Track rules, which limit the process for each party presenting their case via documents only to only one arbitrator. Using one arbitrator and documents only, reduces cost and time. The maximum amount the arbitrator can charge for fees and expenses is $ 5,000.00.
