Harrington Hoists, Inc. is celebrating 150 years in the hoist business.

The company was established in 1867 by Edwin Harrington, a machinist and inventor, when he started a machine shop and hoist business in Philadelphia. His company thrived as a result of his innovative ideas and continual improvements to the design and production of hoists. Throughout his lifetime, Harrington obtained several patents and was best known for developing one of the first electric hoists in 1896.

In the years that followed, Harrington Hoists, Inc. continued to focus on the research and development of top quality products to create solutions to their changing customer needs. The company became a wholly owned subsidiary of KITO CORPORATION in 1990 which allowed them to become the sole source for Harrington/Kito hoist and crane products in the U.S.

Most recently, Harrington and KITO CORPORATION have combined efforts to unify the four Kito Americas Companies including: Harrington Hoists, Inc., Peerless Industrial Group, Kito Canada, Inc. and Kito Do Brasil. This strategy is driven by Harrington’s President & CEO, Carlo Lonardi, and is intended to streamline delivery of quality products and enhance the customer experience throughout all Americas divisions. “It is an honor to be a part of a business that has such a long, rich history,” said Lonardi, “As we enter our 150th year in business, we are proud to continue the tradition of manufacturing quality products that our customers can trust and delivering the service they deserve. We look forward to a bright future focused on providing revolutionary products for global lifting solutions.”

The company said it is planning a series of events and activities to celebrate this 150 year milestone.

Harrington Hoists, Inc. is a producer of hoists, cranes, below-the-hook and material handling equipment in the U.S., Mexico and South America. The company is headquartered in Manheim, Pa., with manufacturing locations in Elizabethtown, Pa., Corona, Calif. and South Holland, Ill.
