Ecospeed Agent Appointed in Germany

April 3, 2014

Karberg & Schmitz GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, have been appointed as Ecospeed agents for the German territory, representing Subsea Industries and Hydrex in the sale and delivery of Ecospeed, Ecoshield and related products including service, maintenance and warranty work.

The appointment follows increased interest in Ecospeed on the part of German based owners, operators and shipyards. Owners of many different types of vessels such as cruise ships, harbor tugs, ice-going merchant vessels and others have switched to Ecospeed as a better alternative hull protection and fuel efficiency system. With more than 3,000 ships, Germany is among the top five of the world merchant fleet list by country. This alone is a good reason to expand our representation in Germany through the agency of Karberg & Shmitz.

Karberg & Schmitz was founded in 1960 to support shipping in the North and Baltic Sea area. The privately owned company offers extensive services ranging from planning, consulting and sales through to support and guarantee services for a number of large and prestigious providers in the shipping industry.

Ecospeed and Ecoshield are produced, distributed and supported by Subsea Industries, a subsidiary of Hydrex NV, based in Antwerp, a global provider of turnkey underwater repair and maintenance solutions and technology.

2013 saw the launch of Ecoshield which protects rudders and underwater gear against cavitation and corrosion damage with an impenetrable protective layer. This has proved very effective in protecting the running gear and bulbous bows of all ships, including ice-going vessels which operate in the harshest of all environment. Those ships with Ecospeed on their hulls and Ecoshield protecting rudders, running gear and bulbous bows have held up extremely well in these conditions which are notorious for destroying conventional hull coatings. Both Ecospeed and Ecoshield come with a guarantee of 10 years.

Hydrex is expanding its network of agencies around the world to meet customer demand and provide superior local support. The German shipping industry and Hamburg and its surrounds are key to expansion for Hydrex and Subsea Industries.
