Abu Dhabi Ports’ Maritime Training Centre looked back on what it called a successful year, noting a number “success stories” throughout 2014 as the number of trainees at the center increased by 15% in 2014 compared to 2013.
Highlighting its success, the training center noted that five new courses have been added to the program which covers the Channel Familiarization course, the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) course, the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) course, the High Speed Craft Operators course, as well as the course on Human Element, Leadership and Management (HELM), on both the management and operational level.
Additionally, the training center passed the Lloyd’s Register audit in May 2014 and is now accredited in their register as an officially approved training provider, reportedly a first of such achievement by any maritime training institute in the region.
The center has also been officially recognized by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) for its VTS courses, and as a result, the center is now included in the IALA list of recognized VTS training providers in the region.
“The recognition of our Maritime Training Centre and the positive response to its comprehensive course offerings confirms our conviction to place training at the core of Abu Dhabi Ports. We will continue to expand our training programs and collaborate with distinguished training partners to develop highly qualified maritime professionals,” said Sultan Al Jaberi, VP - Regulations, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Security, Abu Dhabi Ports.
In October last year, Abu Dhabi Ports officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Abu Dhabi, which will see the parties working together to develop a partnership for academic collaboration and training.
Abu Dhabi Ports will assist with the training of HCT naval and marine students in navigational training courses, covering fields such as simulated ship handling, radar navigation and qualifications with regards to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
