Petronas Inks 12-yr Contract with K-Line

Malaysian national oil company Petronas’ subsidiary Petronas LNG Ltd recently signed a 12-year time charter party (TCP)  with a Japanese shipowner Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (“K” Line) for two midsized new build LNG vessels.According to the statement, the TCP includes an extension option for an additional 12 years. BAM International Begins Kitimat Wharf Contract

The Hague-based BAM International, together with JJM Construction (Canada) and Manson Construction (USA), has received the full order to build the new Rio Tinto BC Works Terminal A on behalf of LNG Canada.The mobilisation and construction works being carried out by BAM and its partners for the Rio Tinto Terminal A expansion have started. Asian LNG Spot Prices Jump on Chinese, Japanese Demand

Asian LNG spot prices jumped this week on strong demand from core importing countries including China and Japan. Spot prices <LNG-AS> for February delivery leapt 70 cents to $11.20 per million British thermal units (mmBtu). Malaysia's Petronas sold a January cargo to Japanese trading giant JERA an estimated $11 per mmBtu, trade sources said. JERA is contracted to take 5.2 million tonnes per year of LNG from Chevron's Wheatstone export project which has been offline for the past four weeks as part of the plant's complex start up procedure.

State-run Qatargas on Wednesday agreed a sale and purchase deal with Austrian oil and gas group OMV to deliver up to 1.1 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually for five years. MISC Berhad (MISC) held the naming and delivery ceremony of its new LNG carrier, Seri Camellia. The 150,200 cu. m. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier is the first in a series of five MOSS-Type LNG carriers ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) by MISC. Upon their delivery, these new LNG Carriers will be chartered to PETRONAS for the next 15 years. The naming ceremony was graced by the presence of Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Sidek Hassan, Chairman of PETRONAS and was officiated by his wife and the vessel’s Lady Sponsor, Y. Bhg.

JX Nippon Acquires 10% Stake in Petronas LNG

Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Japanese oil company JX Nippon Oil & Energy (JX NOE) have signed an agreement for the sale and purchase of equity in Petronas LNG 9 Sdn Bhd (PL9SB), say local media. Under the agreement, JX NOE will acquire a 10% stake in PL9SB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petronas, owns the ninth LNG liquefaction train within the Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia. The unit is developing and will run the ninth liquefaction train at the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Scientists Slam BC LNG Proposal

International climate scientists are calling on the Canadian government to reject a proposed liquefied natural gas project by Petronas-backed Pacific NorthWest LNG in British Columbia, saying it would have dire environmental effects, according to a report in Canadian Press. Ninety academics from Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom released an open letter Monday saying the Pacific NorthWest LNG project would be one of the country’s largest greenhouse gas emitters, and if built, would undermine Canada’s climate change commitments.
