ESA to Partner with One Sea Alliance

New Partners in Autonomous Shipping Alliance

Three 'influencers' in the international maritime sector have joined One Sea,  the industry alliance that brings together leading exponents of autonomous ship technology.Global satellite group Inmarsat and NYK Group research subsidiary MTI (Monohakobi Technology Institute) have joined One Sea as full members, while the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to become a One Sea associate member.One Sea members ABB, Kongsberg Maritime and Wärtsilä ran separate autonomous ship trials off the Finnish and Norwegian coasts at the end of 2018.

Students and researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) were given the opportunity to test their own Dynamic Positioning (DP) algorithms in a full-scale setting last week. Leaks on offshore platforms present a hazard to the marine environment and human health. The monitoring system FlexMoT will detect irregularities and provide a warning system for disasters. The system was presented at this year’s OCEANS’16 in Monterey. (Rostock/Darmstadt/Graz) Accidents in offshore oil & gas drilling are dangerous. The damage caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico five years ago shows how high the costs can be for nature and those responsible. Kongsberg Refit Helps Old VLCC 'GoGreen'

Kongsberg Maritime has completed an extensive refit of a 21-year-old Main Engine, Remote Control System aboard a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) during the vessel’s scheduled docking. The original Main Engine, Remote Control System installed at a newbuilding yard in Japan was de-commissioned and the latest Kongsberg AutoChief 600 was commissioned by a Dedicated Refit Team. The advanced AutoChief 600 is designed to manage all control, safety and alarm functions necessary for operating the main engine and all other accessories for propulsion control from a single station on the bridge.

Seminar on DNV GL DP Operator Training & Certification

Kongsberg Maritime Ltd, the UK subsidiary of global marine technology company Kongsberg Maritime, welcomed customers to its Aberdeen training centre on Thursday 30th June for a seminar on the future of Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) Training and Certification. Delegates from operators including Helix, V-Ships and Technip attended the seminar to find out more about the new KONGSBERG Training and Certification Scheme for DP Operators, which is certified by DNV GL and recognised by the industry.

Kongsberg, DNV GL Partner to Reduce Training Costs

Kongsberg Maritime has entered a partnership with class society DNV GL to issue Product Certificates for Maritime Simulator Systems required by maritime training providers in order to meet flag state requirements under STCW regulation I/12. The partnership enables KONGSBERG to support training providers with an expanded scope of supply with support for mandatory requirements, whilst enabling DNV GL to reduce the overall cost of its certification services for training centers.

Collaboration on Swimming Robots for Subsea Maintenance

NTNU spin-off company Eelume collaborates with Kongsberg Maritime and Statoil to develop swimming robots for subsea inspection and light intervention. Kongsberg Maritime and Statoil have signed an agreement with Eelume, a NTNU spin-off company, to accelerate new technology that will significantly reduce costs related to subsea inspection, maintenance and repair operations. NTNU and Sintef have conducted research on snake robotics for more than 10 years. Eelume is now developing a disruptive solution for underwater inspection and maintenance in the form of a swimming robot.

Haugsdal to Take Over as Kongsberg Maritime Head

Egil Haugsdal has been selected to take over as President of Kongsberg Maritime. Haugsdal holds extensive leadership experience from KONGSBERG, currently leading Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies, with previous experience as Executive Vice President of Business Development and as President of Kongsberg Protech Systems.
