Bestobell Bags HHI's Valve Order

July 4, 2015

Bestobell Marine, a world leading supplier of cryogenic valves for ships, has won a major new order from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea to supply valves for two new vessels. Bestobell’s Globe and Check valves will be used within vessels being manufactured for Greek shipowner, Gaslog.

This latest order is the result of a number of years of product development by Bestobell Marine to provide flanged Globe and Check valves to meet HHI’s unique specification.

This involved a great deal of innovation to create new patterns and tooling for casting and machining the valve bodies, working closely with HHI’s design department. The contract also involved the design and approval of a new smaller version of Bestobell Marine’s unique FLIV (float level isolation) valve. The new DN150 size valve will be suitable for the smaller secondary monitoring floats that HHI uses for the back-up cargo level gauging system.

Duncan Gaskin, Sales Director for Bestobell Marine, said: “This is a great example of our technical team working closely with a client to come up with an innovative solution that meets their requirements.   We set ourselves apart from our competitors by offering good quality valves that are Type approved by the Class Societies and suitable for the applications demanded by shipyards.”

Duncan continues: “As a result, we have seen a huge increase in business over the past three years from the marine sector. We aim to deliver the best customer service experience we can through great communication with clients and delivering on our promises. We doubled our order book in 2014 and we are on track to do the same this year and that doesn’t happen unless you are doing something right.”

The company is rapidly growing its market share and is on target to hold a majority stake in the Globe and Check cryogenic market in 2015.

This latest contract follows on from Bestobell Marine supplying Hyundai Heavy Industries with miniature needle globe valves for a number of years.

Bestobell Marine will be exhibiting at the Gastech exhibition in Singapore in October this year where it will be exhibiting examples of its cryogenic globe and check valve range, including the new flanged design.

Bestobell Marine is the specialist marine division of Bestobell Valves, a world-leader in the manufacture of cryogenic valves for industrial gas applications for over 50 years, which has 15 years’ experience in supplying to the LNG marine markets.  Bestobell’s Valves are widely used on LNG Carriers, FLNG (Floating Production & Storage Units) and FSRUs (Floating, Storage & Re-gasification Units).  The company designs and produces valves to meet specific requirements in the marine sector and has supplied cryogenic valves to a majority of the major shipyards building LNG Carriers.
