Van Aalst Brings Platform-fitted CargoMaxx to Houston

August 22, 2011

Van Aalst Marine & Offshore, inventors of the multi application tank system CargoMaxx, have opened an office in Houston, TX. CargoMaxx is swiftly gaining ground in the offshore support sector, allowing supply vessels to deliver dry cargo to a platform and carry drill cuttings to shore in the very same tanks. Van Aalst is looking to extend the concept to offshore platforms for space-saving, below deck bulk storage of drill cuttings.
Wijnand van Aalst, CEO: “A proven concept on board supply vessels, CargoMaxx not only saves a lot of space. It is a safe, closed system with zero environmental impact. The entire discharge process is basically a single and continuous flow through a hose connection between platform and ship, requiring no hands, no crane; ten times faster than conventional handling. We see strong interest from oil companies and platform owners, and have created our own presence in Houston to be able to provide first-hand commercial and technical service and support.”    Van Aalst has designed CargoMaxx as a modular concept that may be built into, but also retrofitted on platforms. A retrofit option is to schedule the installation as part of a major refurbishment operation in drydock, but may even be performed on site using the standard board crane capacity of a platform.   Van Aalst Houston LLC (telephone 832-390-2526) has appointed Sander Castel as Area Manager in charge of the new office. Castel is a Dutch Royal Navy trained marine engineer who worked with Wärtsilä Propulsion, before joining Van Aalst headquarters in the Netherlands in 2009.
