Stena Line Considering Doubling Ireland-France Freight Services

Ferry firm Stena Line has brought forward a planned doubling of its direct Ireland to France freight service in response to “huge demand” from Irish hauliers hit by the closure of the French border to arrivals from Britain.While freight services were exempt from Ireland’s ban on Sunday on travel to Britain over fears of a new coronavirus strain, around 3,000 lorries take the shorter route to mainland Europe via the so-called British “land-bridge” each week.Stena had planned to add a second ship to its service from Ireland’s Rosslare harbor to the French port of Cherbourg from Jan.

UK Provides Aid for Ferry Operators

Shipbuilding; Irish Ferries to Build Two Vessels

Greenock Ocean Terminal Aims to Double Its Business

Scotland’s deepest container terminal expects to double its business in the next five years thanks to the opening of £400million ‘sister’ terminal – Liverpool2. New Container Service between Cork and Liverpool

BG Freight Line, a fully-owned subsidiary of Peel Ports Group, is introducing a new weekly container service between Cork and Liverpool. This is the first time the two ports have been connected directly, with the service starting on Monday 27 March. It is intended that the new route will offer greater opportunities for customers in the Republic of Ireland to make connections with the deep-sea services now calling at the Port of Liverpool, particularly from Canada, the east coast of the US and the Mediterranean.

Stena Line Extends Ferries Maintenance Contract

Swedish ferry operator Stena Line has renewed its planned maintenance agreement with MacGregor, part of Cargotec. Stena Line has held MacGregor Onboard Care (MOC) agreements since 2008 and its latest contract takes the number of RoRo vessels covered to 39. Seatruck Reports Growth on Irish Sea

Freight ferry company Seatruck is reporting growth of more than 18pc in 2016 consolidating its position as the fastest growing operator on the Irish Sea, as more hauliers switch to its services. Seatruck chief executive Alistair Eagles said freight levels are also up 30pc in November 2016 compared to November last year. He further forecast winning even more business from hauliers switching ferry operators, following the opening of the new £125 million ($155 mln)  Bay Gateway relief road on October 31.

Upgrade Preps Port of Heysham for Larger RoRos

A new link-span bridge at the Port of Heysham is set to increase throughput at the Lancashire port by allowing it to accommodate larger RoRo vessels operating on the Irish Sea. The £10 million investment by owners Peel Ports will create a fourth berth for freight and passenger traffic and help operators to respond more effectively to growing demand. The funding will also see a new pontoon built to support offshore crew transfer vessels, a new port entrance created and various improvements to the port IT and terminal operating systems.
