ClassNK Certification for SMARTSHIP

MOL Conducts Test of Class Survey Using Drones

Mitsui O.S.K. ClassNK Releases Annual Report on Port State Control

Leading classification society ClassNK has released its annual report on Port State Control. The report aims to assist ship operators and management companies in maintaining compliant operations by providing information about ships detained by PSC as well as deficiencies that were found on board from many port states in 2017. In line with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, PSC inspections ensure that vessels departing the port meet international standards and have proved to be highly effective in eliminating substandard ships that are in operation.

Colombo Dockyard to Build Two Vessels for Iraq

The leader of Shipbuilding Industry in Sri Lanka Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) has successfully secured a contract with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) of Japan to build two vessels; Pilot Station Vessel and Buoy Tender Vessel, for General Company for Port of Iraq (GCPI). TTC and GCPI signed the Prime Contract on 27th April 2018 in Dubai. Subsequent to the signing of the Prime Contract, TTC signed the Sub Contract Agreement with CDPLC as TTC’s preferred Shipyard for the construction of these vessels on 2nd May 2018 in Japan.

ClassNK: New PrimeShip-HULL (HCSR) Software

ClassNK released the latest version of its design support software PrimeShip-HULL (HCSR) Ver.5.0.0, developed in response to the IACS Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC & OT). The new version incorporates the latest rule amendments to CSR BC & OT (Rule Change Notice 1 to CSR 01 JAN 2017 version) including amendments based on feedback from the industry. In addition to the incorporation of the latest rule amendments, various functions were also added or improved for the PrimeShip-HULL(HCSR) prescriptive calculation software and direct strength assessment software.

NYK Study on Avoiding Collisions

NYK and NYK Group companies MTI Co. and Japan Marine Science released partial findings of a study on collision risk judgement and the autonomous operation of vessels. MOL Research on Marine Rotary Machineries

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced plans to work with Asahi Kasei Engineering Corporation (AEC) on a project to verify predictive detection of abnormalities in marine rotary machineries using vibrating sensors. ClassNK Updates Scrubbers Guidelines

Classification society ClassNK said it has released the second version of its Guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems. Based on the first version Guidelines released in August 2014, the latest version includes the results of joint research and testing on actual Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems. In an effort to reduce SOx and PM emissions from ships, MARPOL Annex VI limits the maximum allowable amount of sulphur contents of fuel oil used onboard globally, as well as place stricter requirements in geographically defined Emission Control Areas (ECA).

ClassNK Singapore Celebrates 50 Years

ClassNK hosted an anniversary party on July to commemorate 50 years of its Singapore Office, established in 1967 to broaden the classification society’s service network in Southeast Asia. Held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the evening commenced with an opening address by Chairman and President of ClassNK, Koichi Fujiwara. Among guests in attendance, the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, His Excellency Kenji Shinoda gave an honorary address followed by a congratulatory address by Assistant Chief Executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Tan Beng Tee.

ClassNK Endorses Turkish Ship Recycling Facility

Leading classification society ClassNK  has issued a Statement of Compliance (SoC) to a ship recycling facility in Izmir, Turkey, ISIKSAN SHIP RECYCLING and TRADING, verifying that the facilities are in line with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009 (HKC). ClassNK and Green Award Strengthen Ties

ClassNK and Green Award announced that they would further broaden their cooperation to ensure safety and minimize negative effects of the shipping industry. ClassNK e-Certificate Service Underway

Classification society ClassNK said it will commence operation of its comprehensive electronic certificate service for classification and statutory certificates from June 15, 2017. The service, ClassNK e-Certificate, will first be made available to Liberian-flagged vessels on the ClassNK register exclusively. ClassNK e-Certificate is the result of a project aimed at reducing the workload on board and at shore by minimizing potential clerical errors and time-loss associated with paper burden.

EMP Inks Deal to Supply Aquarius MAS

Eco Marine Power (EMP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Singapore based shipping company to supply its Aquarius Management and Automation (MAS) + Solar solution. The solution will also include hardware and software that will allow ships to monitor fuel oil consumption in real time, automatically calculate NOx/SOx/CO2 emissions and interface with marine solar power systems. Initially one ship in the fleet will be installed with the Aquarius MAS + Solar solution and its performance jointly evaluated.

ClassNK Launches Bunker Fuel Oil Analysis Service

ClassNK’s subsidiary ClassNK Consulting Service (NKCS) has officially launched its Bunker Fuel Oil Analysis Service. The service will provide an oil analysis report for the properties of bunker fuel oil based on the ISO8217 Standard with advice such as oil heating and purification. Testing laboratories are located worldwide in Singapore, UAE, U.K. and U.S. After sampled oil is received at the nearest laboratory from each ship, an analysis report will be provided by email and online within 48 hours.

Liberian Registry Names Tokyo Appointments

The Liberian Registry has appointed Eiji Okazaki as president of the Tokyo office operated by its US-based manager, the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR). Okazaki was formerly president and CEO of Japanese ship owner and ship manager IMECS Co Ltd, a subsidiary company of the Japanese major trading house, ITOCHU Corporation. He has nearly forty years’ experience of working at an executive level in the shipowning and ship sales and purchase sectors in Japan, Korea, and Europe.
