APL, part of the CMA CGM Group, has announced the launch of the Felixstowe Express Service (FEX), a new weekly service that connects the key ports of China, Europe and Felixstowe – United Kingdom’s (UK) biggest and busiest container port.

APL said that the new FEX service marks an important expansion of its Asia-Europe service network as APL begins calling at Felixstowe, one of Europe’s and the UK’s most vital ports.
With Felixstowe’s close proximity to the main European shipping lanes; and broad inland transportation options to the rest of UK, the FEX service will provide APL shippers with yet another route of accessing the markets.
The new FEX service will complement APL’s existing port calls to Southampton, offering customers an alternative gateway port into the UK. Through the service, shippers can expect to benefit from shorter transit times from China into the key European markets.
FEX will call the ports of Qingdao, Yangshan, Ningbo, Xiamen, Yantian, Port Klang, Felixstowe, Rotterdam and Hamburg.
The first sailing will depart Qingdao on 20 August 2016.
