ECT Delta Terminal Receives Three Mega-Ship Cranes

 After a voyage of more than two months, yet another three new giant  super post panamax ship-to-shore cranes from Shanghai arrived at the ECT Delta Terminal at the Maasvlakte, in Rotterdam.

The remotely-operated cranes have a lifting height of 50 meters under the spreader and can reach across 24 containers wide, making them capable of handling even the world’s largest containerships.
Furthermore, the cranes can be remotely controlled from the office by ECT’s crane operators. With this subsequent investment, ECT is further expanding its facilities to handle Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCS's). Last year, ECT also commissioned five of such cranes.
The cranes were manufactured by the Chinese company ZPMC. The company added that the cranes are among the lightest quay cranes in the world, with a reduced weight that is 16.7% less than similar-sized cranes.
The three cranes are part of a comprehensive investment program at the ECT Delta Terminal, which will enable ECT to simultaneously handle multiple 20,000 TEU containerships under virtually any circumstances.
Each week, the ECT terminal handles about 36 deep-sea vessels, 170 feeder vessels and almost 500 inland barges at its 3.6 kilometers of quay.
The investment marks ECT’s further expansion of its facilities at Maasvlakte and follows the delivery of five similar cranes in 2014.
The ECT Delta Terminal since its opening in 1993, the first automated terminal in the world. With the opening of the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam in 2008, the next generation was introduced automatic terminal. By continuing to invest continuously, the ECT Delta Terminal still just as modern and ascending as 20 years ago.
