Port of LA Names Janna Sidley General Counsel

She will supervise the City Attorney’s Port operations & serve as in-house counsel to Port management and the Los Angeles Harbor Commission.

Janna Sidley replaces Tom Russell, who retired from the position last year.
 
“Janna will lead a talented legal team already in place at the Port, providing strong leadership and experience in her new role,” said Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich.  “The Port is a critical economic engine to our city and I’m confident that Janna and her team will do an outstanding job with the diverse legal issues involved in operating the nation’s busiest port.”

Sidley joined the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office in 2003 and has worked as a trial deputy specializing in workers' compensation fraud and unfair business practices. In 2006, she was assigned to the Harbor Department, focusing on California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) matters. In 2010, Sidley transferred to the Department of Water and Power and has been responsible for all legal compliance requirements related to CEQA and NEPA.
 
Prior to joining the City Attorney’s Office, Sidley was an Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles from 1998 to 2002. Janna has worked at the Department of Justice in Washington DC, the Department of the Interior and the White House.  
 
Sidley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Her new duties begin March 4, 2013.
