A proposal for new legislation has to advance digitalisation of the Danish International Registry of Shipping (DIRS) been submitted to the Danish Parliament.

If adopted, digital ship registration will move closer to becoming reality, which will in turn reduce paper-work and time spent on transmission of document, said Danish Maritime Authority (DMA).

In order to facilitate the digitalisation of both deeds and mortgages as well as the work routines of registration, the new proposal aims at adapt-ing provisions in the Maritime Act and the Mortgage Bill.

"These changes will make it easier to carry out digitalisation of the Danish register which is expected to happen in 2020," it said.

Digitalisation of ship registration will, amongst other advantages, allow shipping companies to limit time spent on submitting documents for in-spection and validation.
