The Coast Guard declared Carteret County an official Coast Guard Community Thursday during a ceremony at Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City.

Rear Adm. Stephen Metruck, 5th District commander, presented Robin Comer, Carteret County Commissioner, with an official proclamation before a crowd at the ceremony, after a luncheon with community members, leaders, volunteers and service members.

“Thank you for being our friends, our neighbors, and making Carteret County a home away from home,” said Metruck. “Your dedication and hospitality to our Coast Guard men and women is inspirational.”

Some cities and counties make special efforts to acknowledge the professional work of the Coast Guard women and men assigned to their area. Making Coast Guard men and women and their families feel at home is an invaluable contribution to morale. The Coast Guard is pleased to recognize Coast Guard Communities — those counties that have extended so many considerations to Coast Guard families.
