Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has won a contract from the National Petroleum Construction Company of Abu Dhabi, UAE for dredging work related to the installation of an offshore gas pipeline of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company as well as to an existing offshore gas pipeline.

Boskalis will dredge a more than 50-kilometre-long trench between Das Island and Ras Al Qila in onshore Abu Dhabi for the new pipeline installation. Dredging work is scheduled to commence in phases from this quarter onwards and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2017.
A medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredger and a large cutter suction dredger will be deployed as well as backhoe dredgers for dredging in shallow water. Following installation, the pipeline will be backfilled.
In addition, Boskalis will be backfilling an existing offshore pipeline with sand over a total distance of 34km, using a trailing suction hopper dredger. This pipeline is located in the vicinity of the new pipeline.
Boskalis' strategy is aimed at benefitting from key macro-economic factors which drive worldwide demand in our markets: expansion of the global economy, increase in energy consumption, global population growth and the challenges that go hand in hand with climate change. This project closely relates to the increasing energy consumption.
