PORTLAND, Ore. – Sept. 7, 2011 – Steve Miles has joined David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) as vice president and federal market team leader. Miles recently capped a distinguished 26-year career with the Army. He was most recently commander and district engineer for the Portland District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers which has one of the most comprehensive and diversified civil works programs in the U.S. He is a decorated veteran and has served domestically in Oregon, Hawaii, and Washington, and overseas in Iraq, Japan, Germany, South Korea, and Turkey. Miles holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a master’s degree in business administration, and a master’s degree in strategic studies. He is a licensed professional engineer in Oregon and Virginia.

“We are delighted to have Steve on our team,” said DEA CEO Al Barkouli. “His comprehensive knowledge of the needs and processes of federal agencies will allow us to more effectively provide services to our federal clients. Federal work accounts for a sizeable amount of DEA’s annual revenue. “The past two years have been challenging for our industry and for DEA,” said Barkouli. “2011 has been a good year for DEA and we are excited to be aggressively building our base of leadership.” DEA also recently hired four veteran transportation executives to augment its bridges, light-rail transit, and railroad leadership groups. Miles is based in DEA’s Portland office, the firm’s largest with about 200 employees. His initial focus will be in the areas of water resources and marine services. DEA’s marine services division is providing hydrographic surveying in the Gulf of Mexico for NOAA; in Walla Walla, Wash., for the Corps of Engineers; in Portland, Ore., for the city and Port of Portland; and in Puget Sound for Integral Consulting.
