Shots Fired Upon EU NAVFOR Unit

At 1400 local time 11 November 2009 shots were fired upon two RHIB’s from EU NAVFOR warship HNOMS Fridtjof Nansen, 83 nautical miles from Boosaaso.

The RHIB’s conducted a routine patrol off the Somali coast. Weather conditions were clear with good visibility. The RHIB’s were suddenly fired upon while passing some Dhows at a distance of approximately 400 meters. The EU NAVFOR units responded with cover fire and withdrew to a safe distance. There were no casualties on the EU NAVFOR Norwegian side.
