Dock workers at Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT) on strike since 30, March 2013, get international union support.
In their latest statement the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) express their continuing solidarity with locked out Hong Kong dockers, considering that they are being refused their fundamental right to strike after their employer Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT) gained a temporary injunction against them.
The ITF statement continues: It means they have been thrown out of the Kwai Tsing container. They are struggling to gain the opportunity for transparent, good faith dialogue with HIT over the health and safety, working conditions, the need for pay disparity between contract and directly employed workers and the exploitation of outsourced workers.
HIT is a subcontractor of global network terminal operator Hutchison. Dockers must unite to show these global giants that they have to take some responsibility for the welfare of their workers including those employed by subcontractors.
