Lubeck headquartered dry bulk shipping company Oldendorff Carriers said it plans to open an office in the maritime cluster in Hellerup, Denmark by June 2017.
The new office just north of Copenhagen will be headed by Oldendorff Executive & Board Director Jens Jacobsen, who will lead a team initially consisting of eight to 10 people. The company intends to relocate a number of people to the new location but will also look to draw on the dry bulk shipping pool of talent in Scandinavia for further expansion.
Oldendorff said it expects the office to grow to include a full range of support services but will start with chartering, operations, marine accounting and vetting.
Oldendorff currently has offices in 17 locations globally and operates a fleet of more than 600 vessels ranging in size from Handysize (35,000 tdw) up to Newcastlemax (210,000 tdw).
In 2013, the company embarked on a newbuilding program with more than 50 eco ships under construction or delivered. In 2016 the company took delivery of 13 eco newbuildings and purchased an additional 20 bulk carriers.
