Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced that Vice Adm. Mark I. Fox (U.S. Navy, Ret.) has been named corporate vice president of customer affairs for the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding division.

Fox, who will succeed Vice Adm. Evan “Marty” Chanik (U.S. Navy, Ret.) upon Chanik’s October 1 retirement, will be responsible for all customer outreach for Newport News’ programs. He will be located in HII’s Washington, D.C., office and will report to Mitch Waldman, HII’s corporate vice president, government and customer relations.
Fox graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978 and became a naval aviator in 1980. He has had several command assignments, including Carrier Strike Group 10 aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), Carrier Air Wing 2 aboard USS Constellation (CV 64) and Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 81 aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65).
Other command and executive leadership assignments include service as deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans and strategy; commander, Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center; deputy assistant to the President and director, White House Military Office, where he was responsible for overseeing all military support to the President; and service as the aviation programs liaison officer in the Navy’s Office of Legislative Affairs.
“Mark joins us after serving more than 30 years in the U.S. Navy,” Waldman said. “His most recent assignment was as a vice admiral, serving as the deputy commander at U.S. Central Command. His vast naval experience, understanding of our customers and products, and demonstrated leadership are qualities I know will make him a tremendous asset to our company.”
“Marty’s exceptional professionalism, competence and candor greatly enhanced our customer relationships,” said Mitch Waldman, HII’s corporate vice president, government and customer relations. “His hard work has positioned us well for new opportunities many years into the future.”
