The 72nd Governing Council meeting of the Institute of Marine Engineers (India) was held November 14 and 15, 2015 at the IMEI House, Navi Mumbai, chaired by IMEI President Dilip Mehrotra.
Besides conducting routine business, several decisions were taken keeping in mind the objectives of the Institute. It was decided to upgrade the entire IT infrastructure of the Institute and move to Cloud Computing. This will enable office bearers, branches and the HQ to be seamlessly connected.
The IMEI is aware of its environmental responsibilities. The GC decided to install solar heaters for the hostel. It was also decided to reduce the number of print copies of the MER by urging members to voluntarily opt only for the soft copy. Both these measures will reduce our carbon footprint.
The Institute, will in future, sponsor research activities in Marine Engineering by its members. The Governing Council has allocated funds for such research work. It is also encouraging student members to carry out research work. It will financially sponsor any student whose paper gets selected in an international marine seminar.
It was noted during the meeting that the various Facilitation Centers in different cities were functioning well and serving the student community. The imminent opening of a new center in Delhi will be a boon to students from north India.
The IMEI President and a senior Fellow Ranjit Singh represented the Institute at the recently concluded WMTC meet, at Rhode Island, USA. It was sponsored by SNAME. Singh chaired two sessions and the President had discussions with other member bodies on increasing professional co-operation.
Dilip Mehrotra also presented a Vision document, which the GC members will deliberate upon and discuss at the next GC meeting.
