Oceanco sponsored the Showboats Design Awards “Young Designer of the Year Award,” which was presented to Stefano Inglese during a ceremony hosted in the prestigious Monaco Opera House the June 21, 2013.

Oceanco said it places great importance in supporting the yachting industry by cultivating and encouraging new talent, and therefore, on December 3 Oceanco gave all the award finalists an exclusive tour of Oceanco’s facilities in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands.

After an initial welcome, the designers met with several of Oceanco’s key people. Over the course of the day, various topics were discussed such as PYC certification and the challenges designers must overcome in order to implement their creative ideas while at the same time respecting all technical and safety regulations - without compromising on aesthetics and quality.

The young designers were encouraged to give their views and opinions on the latest Oceanco designs and were invited to present their own designs. In turn, they received comments and advice based on Oceanco’s experience and technical knowhow.

Manager Project Development and Innovation, Dirk de Jong remarked, “Winning this prestigious award is an important milestone in the career of student and trainee designers. Their fresh interpretation of the ultimate luxury in yachting and lifestyle onboard often offers an original look at standard requirements and new trends. At Oceanco, we follow new design talent with great interest and are pleased to be able to encourage and celebrate the vision of young designers.”

The host team at Oceanco hopes they were able to help instill a newly invigorated passion for yacht design to this next generation of innovative superyacht designers.

Oceanco continues to support the Showboats Young Designers Award and looks forward to present the prize to the winner on February 24, 2014 at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens, Austria.
