On March 27 and 28, HAROPA-Port du Havre accommodated the Cap San Lorenzo, a container vessel of 9,600 TEU delivered by Hyundai to the German shipping company Hamburg-Süd.
Being the fourth of a series of six vessels of the Cap San class, the Cap San Lorenzo has a reefer capacity of 2,100 plugs on board and 9,600 TEU, which makes that the vessels are the biggest refrigerated containerships in the world. With a length of 333.2 meters, the Cap San Lorenzo has the particular feature of being proportionally very broad (48.2 meters).
Accommodated in Le Havre on March 27, the Cap San Lorenzo left the Norman port on March 28, at 10:30 a.m. The ship has been dedicated since the end of the month of February to the Europe to South America (East coast) service, replacing the Santa Catarina of smaller size (7,100 TEU, 1,600 reefer plugs). Refrigerated cargo specialists’ decision to select HAROPA strengthens the ambition of the three ports of the Seine artery to develop reefer trade, on a 19% rise between 2012 and 2013, the company said. Approximately 10% of HAROPA reefer trade is carried out with South America.
