Florida International Terminal, one of 10 ports operated by SAAM, has added three new Liebherr reachstackers.
“The vehicles not only meet the highest emissions control standards, but also will provide important efficiencies in fuel consumption and significant operational availability. They definitely represent an important step in FIT’s efforts to modernize our yard fleet started a few years ago and will allow us to provide better service for our customers,” commented the port’s CEO, Klaus Stadthagen.
An investment of over US$ 1.5 million, the reachstackers are now undergoing assembly and testing to begin operating in early March.
The high-efficiency Liebherr cranes (LRS 545 model) feature a Tier IV gas emissions certificate, low maintenance costs and a weighing system certified by SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea). They have a stacking capacity of five containers, a maximum lifting capacity of 45 tons and 230 kW engines. They can maneuver with a tight turning radius and their ergonomic design provides better visibility and safety for the operator.
