What      WEBINAR: “Digitizing the Marine Industry in 3D”

When:    October 30, 2-3pm EST

With increased marine regulations it is increasingly important to acquire digital documentation of the your fleet of ships. Today, laser scanners have the range and accuracy to capture marine vessels, piping systems and shipyards to provide 3D modeling that be used in the manufacturing and designing processes.
Vessel owners, vessel builders and naval architects and marine engineers who would like to learn more on the value of the service are invited to participate in a free Webinar on the topic, “Digitizing the Marine Industry in 3D,” scheduled for October 30, 2-3pm EST (click here to sign up http://webinar.navalprofessional.com/)

“There is real value in laser scanning,” particularly when designing and retrofitting complex piping systems on ships and rigs, for example, said Daryl Johnson, Engineering Manager, Summit Engineering and Design, LLC. Johnson’s company, which has used FARO scanners since 2007, said that the modern scanner and resulting 3D digital plan is more efficient than “plumb bob and tape measure,” and importantly it allows for significant amounts of fabrication, welding and fitting before boarding the ship or rig for final install. “You can’t put an exact number on it, but using this technology will reduce drydock and construction costs,” Johnson said.

Johnson will moderate the webinar, and will discuss the benefits in using 3D laser scanning as it applies to these areas in marine applications, including:
• Hull modification/repair
• Ship piping upgrades
• Shipyard management
• Interior 3D modeling
• Engine room documentation
