SUNY Maritime College is once again among the best universities in the North, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The rankings put SUNY Maritime among the top 10 in the State University of New York system and among the top two state maritime academies in the region. The college was also included on U.S. News’ best universities in the region for veterans.

“As the oldest and largest maritime academy in the nation, we have been committed to providing the best education possible for our students for more than 140 years,” said Rohan Howell, dean of admissions.

The rankings are based on various data including retention and graduation rates, and academic program offerings, among others.

SUNY Maritime’s first-year retention rate has been hovering around 85 percent for the past few years.

“The U.S. News & World Report rankings are a reminder to our current and future students that SUNY is dedicated to providing a highly valuable degree that will serve them long after graduation,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher “Congratulations to SUNY Maritime on this much-deserved recognition.”
