A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was today signed by the Chairman of Intertanko , Graham Westgarth, and the President of the Brazilian Maritime Pilots’ Association (CONAPRA) Ricardo Augusto Leite Falcão, and the President of the Brazilian National Pilots Federation (FENAPRATICOS) Otavio Augusto Fragoso Alves da Silva.

This MoA is part of the process of improving cooperation and constructive dialogue between these two associations and their members, thereby ultimately enhancing navigational safety and protecting the marine environment in Brazilian waters.

Meetings between Intertanko  and CONAPRA and FENAPRATICOS to discuss issues of mutual interest have given rise to an improved relationship, where those involved enjoy a cooperative approach to common issues. This has been the key to moving towards the associations’ mutual goal which is the continuous improvement of navigational safety.

Both associations recognise and respect the indispensible roles played by pilots and ships’ officers in bringing about safe, environmentally aware and efficient seaborne transportation of oil, gas and chemicals.

Recognizing the importance of working together in operational and technical areas of common interest, the parties agree to develop their cooperation further and build their relationship, thereby enhancing the safety of ships at sea.
